What Granta Moorings is (and why people get confused)

Cambridge has multiple punting departure points, so it’s normal to see different meeting points mentioned online.

For our tours, you’re looking for the Granta Moorings sign by the river, next to the Granta Pub at 14 Newnham Road (CB3 9EX).

If you arrive at the pub frontage and can’t immediately see the river access, don’t panic — walk toward the water and you’ll spot the Granta Moorings signage by the boarding area.

Step-by-step: how to find the exact check-in spot

  1. Navigate to: 14 Newnham Road, Cambridge CB3 9EX

  2. Look for the Granta Pub (you’ll be right next to it)

  3. Walk toward the river and find the large “Granta Moorings” sign

  4. Check in 10 minutes before your scheduled start time

  5. Our team will confirm your booking and direct you to your punt.

Tip: The easiest way to avoid last-minute stress is to arrive in the area a little early, then check in exactly 10 minutes before your departure.

If you’re doing a walking tour as well

Our walking tours and punting tours have different check-in locations, so make sure you head to the right one for each part of your day.

Walking tour meeting point: Outside Great St Mary’s Church, Senate House Hill (CB2 3PQ). Look for a bicycle with a navy-blue umbrella labeled “Cambridge Walking Tours.”

Punting tour meeting point: Granta Moorings by the river next to the Granta Pub, 14 Newnham Road (CB3 9EX).

Arriving by car: parking tips

Cambridge city-centre driving and parking can take longer than you expect — especially on weekends and busy summer days.

Two common options near the centre are:

  • Grand Arcade car park

  • Castle Hill car park

Park & Ride is also a popular choice to reduce city-centre congestion.

Toilets, luggage, and other practical tips

A few quick details that make the day smoother:

  • Toilets: Public toilets are available near both our punting and walking meeting points, but there are no toilets during the tours, so plan ahead.

  • Luggage / strollers: You can store items like suitcases, strollers, or wheelchairs at our check-in counter during your tour (travel light if you can).

  • Late arrivals: If you arrive late, we can’t offer refunds, so please allow enough travel time.

Accessibility and families

  • Wheelchairs: We don’t have wheelchair access on the boats, but staff/punters can often assist with boarding. Please contact us at least 24 hours in advance to discuss your needs.

  • Life jackets: We have a limited number available; email us at least 24 hours in advance so we can prepare them.

Dogs, food, and drinks on the punt

  • Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome on our punting tours at no extra charge (but dogs aren’t allowed inside Cambridge colleges, so they can’t join walking tours).

  • Food & drinks: You may bring your own food and drinks. Please use plastic cups instead of glass, and be mindful of others during shared tours.
