We Are Cambridge Company Updates
Cambridge weather can change fast — and it’s completely normal to see rain on the forecast even in summer. If you’re booked on a River Cam punting tour, here’s the practical answer:
Our tours still run in bad weather. In light rain, we’ll provide umbrellas. In heavy rain, you’ll have options (explained below) so you can choose what works best for you.
If you’re still deciding what to book, start with our main guide: Punting in Cambridge UK: the complete guide to tours & tickets.
Light rain: Tours continue, and we provide umbrellas.
Heavy rain: You can choose to continue, take a full-value refund voucher for a future visit, or opt for a 70% cash refund.
Comfort: Cushions and blankets are provided on board to keep you comfortable.
Best tip: Bring a waterproof jacket, wear grippy shoes, and protect your phone/camera.
Punting is a seated, slow-paced experience — you stay seated the whole time and the boat moves gently along the River Cam. That means a typical rainy-day tour is usually more about staying warm and keeping your electronics dry than it is about “surviving the weather”.
If you dress for it (layers + waterproof outer layer), many guests still find rainy punting enjoyable — especially because the river and the College Backs can feel quieter and more atmospheric.
In light rain, the tour runs as scheduled and we’ll provide umbrellas.
In heavy rain, you can choose one of the following:
Continue the tour (many people still do, especially if they’ve travelled far)
Receive a full-value refund voucher for a future visit
Opt for a 70% cash refund
If you’re unsure which option is best on the day, check in as normal and speak with our team at the start time — we’ll help you choose the most sensible option for the conditions.
Our tours are designed to operate in typical Cambridge rain. In the rare case a tour is cancelled by us due to weather, our terms state you will receive a full refund.
If you can, avoid booking a punting start time that’s tightly squeezed between train times or other timed tickets. A small buffer makes rainy-day decisions much easier.
Waterproof jacket (more comfortable than relying on an umbrella)
Layers (it can feel cooler on the water than on the street)
Flat shoes with grip (boarding is a step down into the punt)
Phone protection (a zip bag or waterproof case helps a lot)
Rain is when people most often get flustered and walk to the wrong place. Our punting tour meeting point is Granta Moorings by the river next to the Granta Pub. For the exact step-by-step directions, use: Cambridge punting meeting point (Granta Moorings).
Please arrive and check in 10 minutes before your scheduled tour time — rainy streets, traffic, and umbrellas can slow everything down.
Not usually. Tours continue in bad weather. In light rain, umbrellas are provided. In heavy rain, you can choose to continue, receive a full-value refund voucher, or take a 70% cash refund.
